I attended the 2011 Financials conference in Las Vegas this past March as one of the speakers. My husband joined me on this trip and it was his first time there. Weather was conducive (as also the company) so we walked a lot and behaved like tourists. The Bellagio fountains were beautiful, superb Mexican food, Cirque de soleil was out of this world. Many of the sights reminded me of the trips my husband and I have made to Egypt, Paris, Italy; but enough of the tourist attractions.
The conference was great. I caught up with colleagues who I had not met with in years. I presented at a session entitled: “Choosing the right application to support closes, consolidations, and planning”.The attendance was good with a lot of discussion. My presentation included a look, similar to the presentation in Barcelona, at the advantages and disadvantages for each of the solutions that could be used.I received quite a bit of positive feedback on this point. It was brought to my attention during this session that there was not very much material out in the public, that actual performs such analysis.I was also invited to chair the “Meet the experts” session.
The one thing I did notice about this session was that many people left the session feeling that they had to re-evaluate their present situation and processes rather than immediately jumping into a new implementation. You may feel that this is a worthwhile exercise in your organization before you take on a complete change in your system.
